Security - Engine Users and Licenses

Licenses

In order to connect to Engine, a user license is required. Each Engine site is allocated their own license key, which will restrict the number of users that they are licensed to support.

License key requests should be made to Support (support@alterian.com).

Each connection to the Engine (i.e. each active ISession) consumes a license.

Users

In order to obtain an active ISession, it is necessary to supply a valid user name and password. Engine comes with several pre-configured users that cannot be removed from the system. The most important of these is SYSTEM, with the default password of PASSWORD.

The SYSTEM user's password can be changed to a more secure password, but great care must be taken not to lose this information or it will be necessary to reinstall Engine. If this occurs, please contact the Support Dept.

The SYSTEM user cannot be deleted. Other users can be added to the system as required via AMC.

Concurrent Connections

It is possible for a user to have more than one connection (ISession) at a time (i.e., to create more than one ISession object using the same Username and Password) providing that the Engine server has sufficient licenses and that user has been given sufficient concurrent connections via AMC. By default, a user will have access to only one concurrent connection.
